Travellers who love to dangle a line, drop an anchor, pull on the walking boots, catch a wave or dive the depths will love Yorke Peninsula.  Beginning just 90 minutes from Adelaide, it’s a diverse region for you to discover.  With a myriad of activities to experience, from viewing remnants of old mining communities to surfing, fishing, swimming, diving, snorkeling, walking and sometimes even whale-watching, the Yorke Peninsula is the perfect escape for everyone.

Fishing the Yorke Peninsula

If relaxing with a fishing line is your idea of heaven, most towns throughout the region have jetties and boat ramps well known for great catches.  For those wanting to try a spot of beach fishing, try Hillocks Drive and Browns Beach who reputedly provide plenty of success.  Download your free copy of the Yorke Peninsula Fishing Guide.

Yorke Peninsula’s Rich History

If fishing isn’t your thing, History buffs, can learn about the region’s rich mining and farming heritage through its many museums and historic walks.  Check out the Harry Butler memorial in Minlaton with his ‘Red Devil’ Bristol Monoplane on display, believed to be the only genuine one of its kind left in the world. Be fascinated by the extensive collections at the Bublacowie Military Museum providing insight into not only our country at war, but many historical treasures and reminders of the past.

Walk the Yorke – it’s beautiful

Walkers in particular will find a wide range of bush walks, cliff top and shoreline rambles as well as unique geology trails across the region – with a wonderful array of birdlife, history and heritage.  The Yorke Peninsula is a haven for nature lovers.  Head here to find out more about Walk the Yorke!

Yorke Peninsula Nature

Innes National Park is one of the most famous wildlife havens in the State, with 9200 ha of untouched flora and fauna and some spectacular rugged cliffs.  Other great Yorke Peninsula parks include the Leven Beach Conservation Park, Clinton Conservation Park and the Troubridge Island Conservation Park.

Swim and Surf Yorke Peninsula

The many sheltered and secluded bays of the peninsula provide calm swimming areas perfect for the family.  Water sports enjoyed by both locals and visitors alike include surfing, diving, windsurfing, kayaking, snorkeling and more.  Along the southern coastline of the peninsula the beaches feature ideal surfing conditions with Daly Head being recently dedicated as one of Australia’s prestigious National Surf Reserves.

Yorke Peninsula Cafes, Food and Markets

With many cafes and antique shops sure to captivate every visitor, from the coffee lover to the wine buff, there is something for everyone.  There are a number of markets and fairs held across the region, for details of any upcoming events, visit be sure to visit the Yorke Peninsula Visitor Information Centre at Minlaton which is a wealth of local knowledge and information, and provides many handy tips on things to do and see.
